Daily stages

In General

This years adventure starts in Hanoi (Vietnam) and finishes in Phetchaboon in Northern-Thailand (see map).

 

Start and finish are Bangkok. To hanoi we go by air and from Phetchaboon by bus back to Bangkok.
During most stages we saw a lot of public transport. Something we did take advantage of (the bleu streches on the map). There are 2 stages where it is not possible to stop a bus to hop into. This is the the unsealed strech along to red river from Trai Hut to Bao Ha (Yen Bai - Bao Ha stage) and along the Luông river between National Road 15 (Quan Hoa crossing) and National Road 217 (Mai Chau - Sam Nua stage).
We tried to cross the border between Vietnam and Laos at Dien Bien Phu. However this border was still closed in the beginning of 2005. So we corossed the border at Na Meo / Sam Soy. We crossed the border between Laos and Thailand at the Friendshipbridge, the most frequently used bordercrossing between Vientiane and Nong Khai .
