Exploring SE Asia by bicycle: Route description

The Route

In General
Because we have the problem that our ride starts in Bergen (NH) in The Netherlands and time (one month) is just too short to do the whole trip by bike we did some parts by air. From Amsterdam to Bangkok and continuing to Kunming.
By bicycle we will do the part from Kunming in China to Lampang in Thailand. We have to cross two borders (see map).

The first border is between China and Laos at the Laotian town of Boten (or Ban Boten as they say in Laos). The other border is the one between Laos and Thailand. We choose to take the one at the Thai town of Chiang Khong. It appeared to be a good choose because the main bordercrossing near Vientianne (the Friendshipbridge) was clossed a few days due to a bomb attack. From here it is only a few hundred kilometers cycling to Lampang. In Lampang we will take the train to Bangkok and after a few kilometers by bike in the city of angels we will fly home again.

Total:		1642 kilometer in 19 days.
Mean:		86,4 kilometer a day.
