Lao Visa and embassies

 It is necessary to obtain a visa for Laos. You can get one upon arrival if you arrive by air or one of the 5 overland crossings with Thailand or from China. For details regarding overland travel and visa's upon arrivel take a look at the the bordercrossing page.

 Arriving by air

 Visas can also be obtained upon arrival in Laos at two airports: Wattay Airport near Vientiane and Luang Prabang Airport. The visa fee is US$30 per person

When you travel by air keep in mind that the airport tax is US$ 1,0 per passenger on domestic flights and US$ 10 per passenger on international flights.

Overland entry into Laos

  There are several ways to enter Laos overland.
      From China, Vietnam, Cambodia and several bordercrossing with Thailand.

  • Foreign Embassies

      The only visa we ourselves obtained in Vientiane was a Cambodian visa.
          So here we only give information regarding obtaining a Cambodia visa.

    According to some internet pages it might be possible to talk them over to do it in one day (we did not succeed)

    Bus travel

      Although most of the time it is a snail pacing way of transport the bus is getting more and more important. See here for a bus schedule out of Vientiane.

    Laos has two World heritage sites. On the linked site you can make a virtual tour around this sites. Make sure Quick Time is installed.
